Infrastructure · thermal and overload model
AI load · find the capacity constraint
Size the study around the pulse.
Can additional AI racks fit within the capacity of the electrical chain? We applied a periodic two-level load profile to selected transformer, UPS, cable and busbar thermal or overload models.
The studied 28–30 rack configuration stays within the calculated thermal and overload margins of all four components. The capacity envelope reaches 32 racks with adverse assumptions and 38 with favourable assumptions.
The engineering decision
Compare rack count and operating profile against equipment margins.
Use equipment-specific thermal and overload data to examine the limiting component. Then compare candidate load profiles and cluster sizes with the same ambient and installation assumptions.
Method & context
This completed demonstration uses synthetic equipment and load inputs. It treats a periodic two-level load profile. The 32–38 rack envelope is the largest integer capacity at adverse and favourable input bounds; it is not a probability interval. Cable ampacity is an input established for the installation, and the cable thermal model is an internal approximation. Public source data distinguish measured workloads from model-generated facility profiles.
The comparison covers thermal and overload behaviour. Harmonics, upstream dynamic stability, protection coordination and battery smoothing require separate studies.
