A data centre has heat to offer. What would make a recovery project worth pursuing? We structured the thermal balance, reuse ratio and economic comparison around the temperature, demand and connection requirements of a potential heat user.
The worked framework identifies the site and buyer inputs needed to compare recovery scenarios: useful heat, auxiliary electricity, connection costs and the value of the heat accepted.
The engineering decision
Collect the inputs that make a recovery option comparable.
Start with a named heat user, its seasonal demand and required temperature. Add the actual connection route, investment estimate and purchase terms to compare technically compatible options.
Method & context
The available workflow produces thermal balances, an energy-reuse envelope, discounted economic values and the assumptions that change a decision. The public example demonstrates the structure; it does not yet have client inputs for a site result.
Economic conventions are provisional. A project conclusion needs measured source conditions, a characterised heat user and project-specific costs.
